Oh say! Can you see?
It has long been my intention to emigrate to the US. This has been my life ambition since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I went through my childhood aching to go there and was eventually rewarded with a family holiday to Florida. To be honest I couldn't have given a flying poop about Disney, SeaWorld et al, I could have quite happily explored the highways, mini-malls, fast food chains and fleeting distractions that hawk themselves up and down International Drive.
Then...nothing until 1998, when I left school, I made it my mission to visit as many times as I could. Three times in 1998-99, (made permissable by a close friend who was studying in Houston), and a 10 week vacation in summer 2001. Financial implications prevented me from visiting until late last 2005, when I was sent there on a work trip.
My current employer has an office in the US, and I am making it very clear that I wish to be transferred. But they're not biting just yet. My wife doesn't really want to move there, and if push came to shove, and we were on the brink of divorce, I may consider revising my dream. But it's not an issue yet, because the opportunity hasn't yet presented itself. But it will.
So for now I shall bestow this blog with a variety of interesting facts, figures and links, that I might share my dreams, and how to fulfill them, with a sympathetic audience - people like me who foolishly feel the grass is always greener across the pond, and beyond.
